Arab G-WADI Co-Organizes Water Workshop for Gulf Media Professionals
On September 28-29, 2022 a training workshop aimed at improving the role of media professionals in educating society about water challenges and issues in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries was held in the Omani capital of Muscat. Arab G-WADI was one of the organizers, along with the Omani Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and the Omani Water Association. The workshop was supported by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development in the State of Kuwait and the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
The training workshop examined three themes:
- Water resources in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the most important challenges facing their sustainability, including non-traditional water resources,
- The primary sectors consuming water in the GCC countries, including both the agricultural and municipal sectors and water quality, and
- Water security, including themes such as the economic value of water, and the main challenges to the sustainability and security of the water sector in the GCC countries, such as groundwater depletion, the high cost of municipal water supply, and underutilization of treated wastewater.
It also examined the role of the Gulf media in raising water awareness, the participatory approach to water management, and the role of society in supporting decision-making and implementing integrated water resources management.
