Graduate Climate Risk Informed Decision Analysis (CRIDA) Course Created
Instructors from the ICIWaRM, the National Water Institute of the Dominican Republic, and the Pontifical Catholic University Mother and Teacher (PUCMM) gave a 20-hour course on Climate Risk-Informed Decision Analysis (CRIDA) on 12-14 September 2024. The event was partially funded by USAID, as part of a project to enhance climate resilience and sustainability in Dominican Republic. The course was held in Santiago de Los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, and was conducted in Spanish. The event engaged twenty participants from water agencies and graduate programs of the PUCMM. Eleven participants were women. Participants received a formal university certificate of completion.
Participants were presented with an application of a stress test for application of complete vulnerability assessments. They were also familiarized with the economic and technical challenges in planning and design under climate change.
A research agenda was identified in topics of water markets, redundancy through water transfers, economic valuation, conflict studies, demand management and technology. Students will make proposals to the PUCMM for graduate research projects, and USACE will evaluate potential for providing mentorship where applicable. In addition, a participant from the Dominican Republic Hydropower agency expressed interest in the application of CRIDA in resilient operations of hydropower.
The Deputy Minister of planning and Director of Public Investment were briefed about training and expressed an interest in follow-up.
