G-WADI LAC Holds Second Meeting July 10, 2011 G-WADI LAC (Latin America and the Caribbean) held its second organizational meeting in Juan Dolio, Dominican Republic, on July 1. G-WADI LAC was created in December 2010 at a special session of the International Conference "Arid and Semi Arid Development through Water Augmentation" in Valparaiso, Chile. At that meeting, the Water Center for Arid and Semi-Arid Zones in Latin America and the Caribbean (CAZALAC) was proposed as the regional secretariat, and preliminary terms of reference for the regional network were developed. G-WADI Dakar Workshop Water: Science, Policy and Capacity Development Dec. 3, 2010 The UNESCO G-WADI programme in conjunction with UNW-DPC is launching a capacity development activity focused on the semi-arid regions of Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). The primary goal of this programme is to enhance the communication between scientists and those engaged in policy and management of (mainly) groundwater resources, as outlined in the attached document. It will also serve as a forum to launch G-WADI activities in semi-arid regions of SSA. Read more
G-WADI Steering Committee Member Professor Soroosh Sorooshian Wins Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Water Prize Oct. 27, 2010 Dr. Soroosh Sorooshian of the U.S. won the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Water Prize for Management and Protection of Water Resources for 2008-2010. Prof. Soroosh Sorooshian is the Director of the Center for Hydrometeorology & Remote Sensing (CHRS) and Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Earth System Science Departments at UC Irvine. His area of expertise is hydrometeorology, water resources systems, climate studies and application of remote sensing to earth science problems with special focus on the hydrologic cycle and water.
